Four Stages of Contribution

Change

Four Stages of Contribution

Global Novations developed the Four Stages® of Contribution research over a period of 30 years. The most recent project measures the current realities of employee development and contribution. Collected with the partnership of leading organisations and supported in the UK by ourselves, the results include information on the contribution and development of over 2,000 managers and direct reports. Data was collected from 2007-2009.

Employee contribution was measured using the Four Stages® of Contribution model. The findings of the research were explored through the lens of today's critical talent development issues. Visit our Resources area to download the white papers.

Four Stages Model
The Four Stages™ of Contribution Model, based on research pioneered by former Harvard Business School professors Gene Dalton and Paul Thompson, makes clear what high performers actually do and the contribution they make.

This model identifies the ways or "stages" in which people contribute and describes what high performance is in each stage—Contributing Dependently, Contributing Independently, Contributing Through Others, and Contributing Strategically.

Change

Many companies tell us that they are "good" at change, but the data we find tells a slightly different story. In a research study involving tens of thousands of employees all over the world, we learned some surprising data.

Some changes are poorly planned, but the vast majority of the failures happen because people either fight against it or don't know specifically what they need to do to make it happen. Red Trees change model identifies the stages that need to be managed within a change project and the tools and resources to make the change successful.
