Two people, strangers to each other, were looking to change jobs. They asked their contacts and coincidentally, identified the same company that for them, appeared to fit the bill. Naturally they wanted to find out more about their prospective new employer and by chance, found the same person in the company who could answer their questions.
Job hunter one, called up his contact to learn about this company “and what are the people like to work with?” he asked. His contact replied “What are the people like in your current organisation?” “They are uncommunicative and always looking out for themselves” the job hunter replied. “Ah” said his contact “the people that work here are just the same.”
Later that day, the second job hunter called up the same person to get information about his prospective new employer. “So, what are the people like to work with?” he asked. His contact responded with a question of their own, “What are the people like in your current organisation?” They are a great team, full of energy and really supportive” came the reply. The contact responded. “you know, the people that work here are just the same.”
You are what you see in others – they are a mirror reflecting back your own world. Someone once said to me ” What do you do if you find yourself swimming with sharks? – Changing pools will only likely find you swimming with a different school of sharks. Better change and become a dolphin.”
